Tourada

Bullfight

Não importa sol ou sombra It doesn't matter, sun or shade
Camarotes ou barreiras Cabins or barriers
Toureamos ombro a ombro as feras We fight the beasts shoulder to shoulder
Ninguém nos leva ao engano Nobody deceives us
Toureamos mano a mano We fight hand in hand
Só nos podem causar dano esperas Only waiting can hurt us

Entram guizos, chocas e capotes Bells, cowbells and capes are coming in
E mantilhas pretas And black mantillas
Entram espadas, chifres e derrotes Swords, big horns and defeats are coming in
E alguns poetas And some poets
Entram bravos, cravos e dichotes Brave people, carnations and swear words are coming in
Porque tudo mais são tretas Because it's a wheeze at most

Entram vacas depois dos forcados Cows are coming in behind the forcados
Que não pegam nada Who don't fit at all
Soam bravos e olés dos nabos Bravos and olés of the yokels
Que não pagam nada Who pay nothing are sounding
E só ficam os peões de brega And only the bullfighter's helpers are left
Cuja profissão não pega Whose job doesn't fit

Com bandarilhas de esperança With hopeful banderillas
Afugentamos a fera We keep off the beast
Estamos na praça da Primavera We're on the Spring Bullring
Nós vamos pegar o mundo We're going to grab the world
Pelos cornos da desgraça By the horns of misfortune
E fazermos da tristeza graça And let's make fun of sadness

Entram velhas, doidas e turistas Old women, crazy women and tourists are coming in
Entram excursões Excursions are coming in
Entram benefícios e cronistas Benefits and columnists are coming in
Entram aldrabões Swappers are coming in
Entram marialvas e coristas Marialvas and choristers are coming in
Entram galifões de crista Cockies with combs are coming in

Entram cavaleiros à garupa Knights are coming in with a gallop
Do seu heroísmo Of their heroism
Entra aquela música maluca That crazy music is coming in
Do passodoblismo Called Paso Doble
Entra a aficcionada e a caduca The fan and the old-fashioned are coming in
Mais o snobismo e cismo The snobbery and the hate too

Entram empresários moralistas Moralistic business people are coming in
Entram frustrações Frustrations are coming in
Entram antiquários e fadistas Antiquaries and fado singers are coming in
E contradições And contradictions
E entra muito dólar, muita gente A lot of dollars are coming in, many people
Que dá lucro aos milhões Who pay their millions

E diz o inteligente que acabaram as canções And the intelligent man says that songs are over

Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala... Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala...
Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala... Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala...
Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala... la la... Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala... la la...

Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala... Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala...
Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala... Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala...
Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala... la la... Lalalala lala lala lala... lalala lala... la la...

Translation by Carlos Martinez.

This song is a demonstration against materialism.
  • Banderillas - harpoonpointed sticks (literally "little flag") which are planted on the bull's flanks.
  • Paso Doble - Spanish style of dance which is based on the theme of a bullfight.
  • Mantillas - a lightweight lace or silk scarf worn over the head and shoulders, often over a high comb, by women in Spain and Latin America.
  • Marialvas - extravagant, indolent people, usually males.
  • Forcados - a group of eight men who challenge the bull directly, without any protection or weapon of defense.
